I'm Sunshine Elder

And I know what it's like to do the hard thing alone.

I built My Friend Sunshine because the support I needed during the hardest seasons of my life didn't exist. Now I provide it for other people.

She’s authentic and straightforward — and does it with love and kindness.

About Sunshine

Close-up of a woman with curly red hair wearing large round eyeglasses, smiling gently, with her chin resting on her hand, outdoors with a blurred green background.

I’ve lived a life with sharp edges

I’ve experienced more loss, instability, hard resets, and misplaced responsibility than most people can fathom. It taught me how to keep functioning while my world crumbled, how to rebuild from the rubble without a support system, and how to keep putting one foot in front of the other when the people who should have been there… just weren't.

That lived experience is why my work feels different. I'm not shocked by messy. I'm not scared of hard emotions. And you don't need to perform your pain in a tidy, inspiring way to receive support here.

How I show up

You can expect:

  • No performance required. Show up real, not polished.

  • Truth with care. Direct, but never degrading.

  • Action with heart. We talk, we feel, and we figure out how to move forward.

  • Clear agreements. You deserve to rely on someone who shows up the way they agreed.

If you’ve spent your life being the one everyone depends on, My Friend Sunshine is built for you. It’s your turn to receive support that’s steady, unflinching, and real.

My Mission, Vision, & Purpose

My mission is simple: to be the steady, no-bullshit presence in your corner when life blows up or finally breaks open. I offer unpretentious, in-person support for women (cis and trans) and LGBTQIA+ people navigating major life transitions who are tired of doing it alone.

My vision is a world where post-traumatic growth is expected and celebrated, not judged or ignored. My Friend Sunshine is building a model that proves we can thrive in a world where traditional support systems are either failing or disappearing entirely, and uses that success to seed accessible, community-based support in more places for more people.

My purpose is to turn my own hard-earned experience into something useful for you. Every lesson, every scar, every painful truth becomes raw material to help other people step out of survival mode and into lives that actually fit them.

I'm here to stand beside you in the mess — swearing a little, laughing when we can, crying when we have to — and to make sure you are seen, backed, and believed while you build something better than what you were given.
